Episode 110: Nioh, Steep and Combat Systems in Games

February 14, 2017

Brett is back! This week we have a ton to discuss. We play the new Team Ninja game Nioh extensively and talk about about how great that game is. It could very well be a Game of the Year 2017 contender. We also play Ubisoft’s open world sports game Steep and are pleasantly surprised at how good it is. Finally, For Honor comes out this week so Brett and Devan give the beta a try before the release and have a lot to say about the combat system.

In our news, Activision Blizzard has a huge quarter, Call of Duty is going back to its roots, Mass Effect Andromeda will have meaningful side quests and Steam is ditching Project Greenlight.

Finally, our discussion is very topical with Nioh and For Honor coming around the corner. We talk about the evolution of combat systems in gaming, specifically melee combat systems and how they’ve changed over the years.

Don’t forget we have our contest! Share our Solar Flare comic post on Facebook and get the entire series signed by the writer himself! Deadline is February 25th.
